About the event

Get ready for an amazing half day session at the breathtakingly historic site of The Mill House. Picture yourself immersed in its rich history while having a a creative and fun time.

Sunflower Artistry has been given the extraordinary opportunity to have EXCLUSIVE access to a previously inaccessible space. And let me tell you, it's not just any ordinary place, it's an absolutely stunning and historic location right by the picturesque river Stour! Can you even imagine all the inspiration and creativity that will flow in such a beautiful setting? The Mill House is a historic family home owned by the Baker family and is surrounded by enchanting dells, picturesque riverbanks, and majestic willow trees. Every twist and turn reveals another inspiring sight. Set within this natural landscape lies a charming brick building, ready to shield you from the whims of British weather. This one-of-a-kind venue is an absolute gem, providing an inspiring haven where creativity can flourish and a chance to reconnect with nature.

We have options to suit both the new budding landscape artist and the more experienced creative.

Four our newbies:

We'll kick off at 10am and dive into the wonders of the landscape. Don't forget your sketchbooks (supplied), cameras, or even your trusty smartphones – they're going to be our artistic tools of choice especially if it rains! Whether rain or shine, we'll capture awe-inspiring photos that will ignite our creative sparks. And let's not forget about the sketches – we'll explore various mediums and have engaging conversations about compositions along the way.

Once you've soaked in some beautiful views and found inspiration, it's time to bask in the open air (or warm up inside our studio if Mother Nature isn't cooperating) and dive into creating a masterpiece on canvas using loose impressionist style techniques.

While we won't be diving too deeply into processes and techniques in this taste session, we'll be sure to cover the fundamentals and have an absolute blast experimenting with confident impressionist styles.

Sarah will be demonstrating how she embraces a landscape. She takes the time to carefully evaluate the landscape in front of her, experimenting with different compositions. And when it's time to paint, she dives right in using bold brushstrokes that bring life and vibrance to her artwork.

For our more experienced creative:

Bring along your own materials and tools of choice and access this beautiful land under the supervision of our experienced tutor and guide, Sarah-Marie. You will be able to pitch up in a variety of spots to work on your creations. At 10am you will join Sarah-Marie and the rest of the group to walk through the landscape to see a wide selection of inspirational areas where you can choose to set up. Some areas are not open to the public and you will talked through these restrictions upon arrival. You will then be left to enjoy up to two hours of peaceful creative process.

This will be followed by a delectable buffet lunch provide by Painters @ The Angel Sudbury and light refreshments. The lunch will include a selection of sandwiches, crudites, dip, sausage rolls, mini cakes and fresh fruit. Please notify us of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Materials will be provided if this option is selected; however, you are also welcome to bring your own and save on the booking cost. Please note that cameras and smartphones must be your own and will not be supplied. We will be using materials which may stain clothing. Aprons for use on the day will be supplied but we do advise that you need to wear suitable clothing.

The session starts promptly at 10am. Please arrive no more than 15 minutes early but do please arrive ready for the session dressed for the weather of the day. We advise sturdy footwear. Our creative session concludes just after 12 noon where we will then have lunch and discuss the work we have produced. We wrap up for about 1pm. Suitable for all abilities including complete beginners.

Parking is permitted on site within the home’s carpark. You will need to remove your car at the end of the session but if you wish to continue your time along the public part of the river or visit the nearby art gallery, there is street parking nearby.

Please notify us of any dietary requirements and please note registration for this event will close 24 hours prior to allow for catering. Bookings are non-refundable.

Important side note - The site is also a private home. Participants will need to remain with the instructor or in their designated set up, at all times. Please do not take photos of the private residences that reside on the grounds or of any or the residents. It is vital that the privacy of the family is maintained and respected. Anyone who does not follow this will sadly be asked to leave with no refund given. We thank you in advance for your consideration.
